First Falkland Summit to SummitCongratulations to Robert VP8DMM/P (G0PEB) and Carolyn DL/G6WRW/P on the first Summit to Summit contact with the Falkland Islands. The QSO took place on 18.153MHz around 1835z on 1st July. Robert was using a 1/4 wave vertical with elevated radials from VP8/WF-025 and Carolyn was using a 5/8 wave vertical also with elevated radials from DM/BW-008. Both stations were both using 50-100w. Helen DL/M0YHB/P followed Carolyn for the 2nd Summit to Summit with the Falklands. Not content with the summit to summit QSO, about 30 minutes later Carolyn worked Robert again, this time from her mobile station!!! Stunning work Robert handling the unruly pileup. The contest practice was useful for something!!! John GW4BVE (1st July 2010) First Falklands SOTA to UK contactRobert VP8DMM/P (G0PEB) activated VP/WF-025 today and worked John GW4BVE for the first contact into the UK from a Falklands SOTA summit. Mike G4BLH (30th June 2010) Pendle Hill G/SP-005 Sunday June 27thActivators beware If you are thinking of activating Pendle Hill G/SP-005 this weekend, you might like to think again. Sunday is the day of the National Road Race Championship 2010. Many of the minor roads around Pendle will be closed including the road from Barley to Downham, Blacko to Downham, Barrowford to Roughlee, Roughlee to Barley. Barley will be completely inaccessible by road accept for residents with permits (this also applies on Saturday 26th) because of other cycling events . If this occurs it will have the effect of severely depressing the F layer critical frequencies so making NVIS communications on 5MHz and even possibly 3.5MHz difficult or impossible. Conditions on all HF bands are likely to be adversely affected. Mike G4BLH - Sunday 4th April Aldi do it again !![]() One of their specials, think it went live Thursday 4th Feb, but there were plenty in stock up here in East Lancs, a great little spotting scope, 20-60 x 60mm, fairly compact and easy to pack for trips on the hill. £19.99, at this price they are not up there with the big lads, such as Leica and Swarovski, but for the price they are a good little scope, a bit dark at the far end of the zoom and so best used in good light but for wildlife watching while out and about they are fine. Lee MØLMP - Saturday 6th Feb 2010 Summits Achievement for Phil G4OBKOur congratulations to Phil G4OBK who with his activation of WOTA LDW-078 Birkhouse Moor this afternoon completes, I believe, his activation of all of Wainwright's Eastern Fells.
